Xmas

The abbreviation Xmas for Christmas dates from the 16th century. The X represents the Greek letter "chi", which is also the first letter of the Greek word Χριστός (meaning Christ). The word Xmas was used in religious writing for many years. But it is now offensive to some people because it is considered a commercial strategy to omit Christ from Christmas. Nowadays, it is used only in informal writing and on advertisements.

La palabra Xmas fue utilizada en escrituras religiosas por muchos años.
